tonight we shall find out if poverty is really as bad as we see it.
poverty. the state of having little or no money or food.
in singapore, not many people live in absolute poverty. many of these people see themselves as helpless and are often dissapointed to be in their current state. in singapore, most people find themselves in poverty after they have lost their jobs or have spent all their money either gambling, on cigarretes or sometimes in the stockmarket.
in other countries like africa a vast amount of its population live isloated from the mordern world. these people have to rely wholly on their ability to hunt and to survive in a harsh world. when we do see the living conditions of these people we tend to pity them and feel sorry for them. but do these people see themselves as poor? it takes little to please these people. a simple meal we take for granted could bring them days of joy and happiness.
although it is rare, there are beggars in singapore. instead of finding a proper job or using their talents to earn money, some of these people prefer to result to crude and cunning methods of conning others either by making up stories that they need money for food but using this money for cigarrettes or to gamble. i have seen people begging for money even when they have more than $10 in cash with them and even a handphone.
so... do they people supposedly living in poverty in singapore truly deserve help? some who try their best to succeed but still fail do to some extent deserve help and the elderly without children to support them obviously need the public to support them. but the conmen who trick others for the sake of losing the money again do not at all deserve the help of society. even with enough money to buy a meal they continue to beg for more sometimes even begging for sums as large as $10 or $20. these people do not at all rely on their god given skills but instead cause others their hard earned money.
ok sorry if this is below standard wasnt thinking straight and couldnt figure out my thoughts...
